April Meeting

April Meeting Minutes

IMPORTANT UPDATE - ATTENTION all BCRCC club members: As a major departure from our usual routine, the next club meeting will NOT be held at The Santiam Christian School but, instead, will be at the Corvallis Airport in the CORVALLIS AERO SERVICE hangar. Please let your club friends know this in case they don’t see this announcement… We’d hate to have uninformed members cooling their heels and fuming outside waiting for the rest of us to show up…

Jim Bourke has kindly offered to show us his YAK-54, “Russian Thunder.” There are only seven of these planes in the world which are in flying condition and his is the only one in the USA. Jim and his new acquisition were featured in the Corvallis Gazette- Times on December 16th. In that article, it stated that the plane “was built in 1996 and was the first YAK-54 that was sold and flown. It has an all aluminum body and a 360 HP, radial Bedenyev M-14 engine… the YAK-54 was built for impressive vertical penetration, and can climb at about 3,000 feet per minute.”

In the world of R/C scale aerobatics, World Champion, Quique Somenzini has popularized the YAK-54 by winning many national and international competitions with his model(s). His and a number of other manufacturing companies currently offer quite a few versions of this plane… all scaled down from Jim’s. To bring things around full circle, Jim’s REAL FLIGHT SIMULATOR offers, as one aircraft option, the YAK-54 in the same color scheme as his full scale plane!

The YAK-54 is a 2-seater and Jim has offered to let us climb into the cockpit and experience the instrument panel and other internal surroundings of this thoroughbred. Also, for the cost of the fuel and at some future dates to be scheduled, he has offered to take members up for some actual air-time, a very unique opportunity, indeed!!!

As usual, the meeting will be held on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, April 9th, at 7:30pm.

DIRECTIONS:

From HWY 99W in South Corvallis, turn west onto AIRPORT RD. Follow signs to CORVALLIS AERO SERVICE. The signs will have you turn left (south) onto AIRPORT PL. and the large beige hangar in the distance has the CORVALLIS AERO SERVICE sign displayed on the side. Enter from the south side of the building. The folks from Corvallis Aero Service have kindly agreed to let us use their meeting room for the remainder of our gathering after the YAK-54 presentation. A friendly word of warning, however: it’s going take one mighty impressive SHOW ‘N’ TELL entry to wrest that winning gallon of fuel away from Jim Bourke!!!

Enjoy and have a fine month…
