2009 FUN FLY SCHEDULE
May 13- Parachute Drop: Aside from a buddy-box control (so the competing pilot may relax and watch the progress of his chute effort) each pilot will work alone. The parachute landing will be measured from a runway target. The bomber and parachutes will be provided…
June 10- Balloon Pop: Helium-filled balloons shall be affixed at various locations about the runway and field. Each pilot will have a set time to amass his point score. Points shall be awarded for popping or cutting free the balloons and higher points shall be awarded for the more distant (and difficult) placements…
July 8- Double Touch and Go Ribbon-Hop: A ribbon shall be transversely stretched across the center of the runway at approximately a 2 to 3 foot height. In a given time allowance, each pilot shall complete as many “double touch and go ribbon-hops” as humanly possible. Cutting, touching or passing under the ribbon shall stop the clock, as shall landing off the runway…
Aug 12- Climb ‘n’ Glide (+ gimmick~ to be announced): From the moment of lift-off, the plane shall be timed for its 20 second powered climb. Power shall then be cut and the plane shall attempt to remain aloft for as long as possible, the effort being timed. An additional element shall be revealed at the field prior to the event…
Sept 9- Slow Pass – Fast Pass: Each pilot shall fly two timed flights the length of the runway. The first shall be as slow as possible, while maintaining continuous forward motion. The second shall be as fast as possible. The difference between these two times shall determine the winner…
Alternate Event- Poker Fun Fly: This may be inserted as a substitute event if there is XS wind. Details to be announced at the field…

General Comments~
Committee- Ted Lukins, Ed Rhodes, Mark Wilson and I carved out the Fun Fly program. We reserve the right to sculpt additional modifications into the schedule or rules as we might deem necessary… especially~
Substitutions- Some of the scheduled events are particularly vulnerable to wind disturbance. In the event of wind, felt to be excessive and potentially disruptive, the scheduled event may be replaced by a Poker Fun Fly…
Planes- Fuel or electric power will both be eligible. Gliders or glider hybrids will not be eligible for the Climb and Glide.
Times- Pilots generally are assembling by 6:00 with nearly the full turnout by 6:30. We will begin the event when a sufficient number is present- roughly at 6:30 p.m. Late-comers may still sign in after the event has begun. Of the 5 Fun Fly dates, the September event is the most critical to begin in a timely manner as we will be racing the “speed of dark!”
Business Meeting- Any business topics will be briefly considered after the awards ceremony following the Fun Fly…
Have a fine month…
